ВОЗ выпустила новые рекомендации относительно карантина для контактов подтвержденных или вероятных случаев COVID-19 (Временное руководство ВОЗ от 19 августа 2020 г.). Рекомендации адресованы, главным образом, властям (в частности, есть любопытный раздел о политических рисках введения карантина).
Основные принципы карантина:
лица, находящиеся на карантине, должны быть помещены в хорошо вентилируемые помещения с большим количеством свежего и чистого наружного воздуха для контроля загрязнений и запахов. Приводятся критерии вентиляции, иллюстрации для оценки скорости естественной вентиляции; физическое расстояние между всеми людьми, помещенными в карантин, должно составлять не менее 1 метра; размещение должно включать обеспечение адекватным питанием, водой и средствами гигиены; безопасные места для хранения багажа и других вещей; лечение существующих болезней; связь с членами семьи, находящимися за пределами карантинного учреждения.

В развитие этих принципов приведены более конкретные указания, адресованные руководителям карантинных учреждений и персоналу (дезинфекция, уборка, использование СИЗ, респираторный этикет и т.п.).
